Credit hours required to graduate |
- Minimum of 90 hours beyond the bachelor’s degree.
- For students with the master’s degree, no more than 30 hours can be transferred toward a doctoral degree.
- Hours include research credit hours, graduate seminars and other graduate courses.

Research credit hours |
- 30 or more research credit hours (BAE 999) beyond the M.S. degree.
|
Graduate seminar |
- 4 hours of graduate seminar courses (BAE 815, BAE 816, BAE 817, BAE 818).
- 2 hours of graduate seminar courses for students who earned M.S. degree in BAE department at K-State.

800-level courses |
- 15 hours in addition to research credit hours (BAE 999).
|
500-level courses |
- No more than 6 hours of courses outside of BSE and ENVE degree programs.
- For B.S. students bypassing the M.S. degree, no more than 12 hours of courses outside of BSE and ENVE degree programs.

Problem courses |
- No more than 6 hours of BAE 810.
|
Supervisory committee |
- Major professor and three K-State graduate faculty (can be outside of BAE department). Must be formed by the end of second semester.
- Outside chair will be appointed to serve on the supervisory committee after successful defense of preliminary examination.

Program of study |
- Must be prepared by the end of second semester and approved by Graduate School.
|
Preliminary examination |
- Consists of comprehensive written and oral examination.
- Awarded Ph.D. candidacy after successful defense.
|
Final examination |
- Scheduled no earlier than seven months after the preliminary examination.
|
Degree awarded |
- Successful defense of final oral examination and submission of electronic version of dissertation to the ETDR system.
