M.S. Program Requirements

The general requirements for admission to a biological and agricultural engineering graduate program include a Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree from an accredited biological and agricultural engineering or similarly named program, and evidence that the applicant possesses the capability to perform graduate study. Students not possessing an engineering degree may be admitted provisionally with the requirement to complete a core program of undergraduate engineering coursework.

Minimum GPA to graduate
  • 3.00
Credit hours required to graduate
  • Minimum of 30 hours of graduate credit including research credit hours, graduate seminars and other graduate courses.
Courses
  • 22 to 24 hours of non-research coursework for thesis option.
  • 28 hours of non-research coursework for report option.

Research credit hours
  • 6 to 8 hours for thesis option (BAE 899).
  • 2 hours for report option (BAE 898).
Graduate seminar
  • 2 hours enrolling in two out of four graduate seminar courses (BAE 815, BAE 816, BAE 817, BAE 818).
700-level courses
  • 18 hours including research and graduate seminar hours.
500-level courses
  • Allowed but no more than 6 hours of courses outside of BSE and ENVE degree programs.
Problem courses
  • No more than 3 hours of BAE 810 in a 30-hour program.
  • No more than 6 hours of BAE 810 in a program of more than 30 hours.
Supervisory committee
  • Major professor and two K-State graduate faculty (can be outside of BAE department) must be formed by the end of second semester.
Program of study
  • Must be prepared by the end of second semester and approved by Graduate School.
Degree awarded
  • Successful defense of final oral examination and submission of electronic version of thesis or report to the ETDR system.
